Magical Miscellany: 3.23.2015

Happy equinox! The daffodils and jasmine are blooming, and they smell so good.

In case you missed it: last week, I had the pleasure of sharing 3 ways astrology can change your life on the ever-charming Heroine Training.

Thinking about going freelance? This post from The Coveteur tells you how to do it right, and what it's really like to be self-employed.

I adore Veronica Varlow's 3 tips on how to flirt (from a burlesque performer)! Her guide to putting your own magic into objects is delightful, too.

Do you work with a team? Here are 3 questions everyone in the group should be able to answer.

Want to create a home office or sacred space on a budget? Theresa Reed tells you how to furnish your tarot office on the cheap. She also has great advice (per usual).

Just pulled an all-nighter? This morning-after makeup tutorial should do the trick!

Mystic Medusa has been on a completely new level of awesome recently. The latest installments in her Mercury sign reading material and Style Your Ascendant features are fabulous. Also, she explains why I haven't gotten a wink of sleep for the last 2 weeks!

Dealing with chronic pain and running a business? You're not alone.

I loved Gala Darling's account of her mid-winter Miami vacation (a.k.a. "escape from snow island")! You can read it here, here, and here.

Ever wondered what Cleopatra's beauty routine was? Now you can find out.

Finally: empty the tank.

Magical Miscellany: 3.16.2015

Did you know that Elemental Astrology includes audio of all 11 modules? This weekend my husband (a professional musician and recording engineer) turned our home into a studio for a marathon recording session.

The course goes live at the end of this week (!), so there's only a few days left to snag your copy at the preorder price! If you're a mystic on a budget, take a look.

Merry Christmas Eve Eve! I found this beauty outside the meeting room at Theresa Reed's Soulful Proprietor retreat. Isn't she lovely?

In the spirit of the holidays, I've prepared an extra helping of link love goodness for your vacation reading pleasure. Eat up!

Want to improve your tarot practice in the new year? This book of 365 tarot spreads will do the trick! (Besides, who can resist a chapter called Lord Shiva's Find a Mate Spread?)

Sas Petherick's mini-memoir about her spiritual journey from skeptic to mystic is intimate and heartfelt. Read it here, here, and here.

Theresa Reed has been dealing some much-needed tough love this week. Tarot readers, take note: her 10 signs your biz is not sustainable and tips to help a client in crisis are wise and supremely useful.

Briana Saussy shares unique perspective on last Sunday's winter solstice and new moon by looking at the contradictory symbolism behind the goat. Is he the wild god, or the Christian devil? You decide.

From Braid Creative: it's okay to start small.

Hey Shenee's behind-the-scenes look at her rebrand is full of good reminders for creative entrepreneurs.  Also, if you haven't tried her Brand Chemistry quiz yet, I highly recommend it!

These two sentences can make just about anything better.

Stop waiting for something to happen before going after what you want.

I love this deep cut from Alexandra Franzen: 10 ways your website is breaking my heart. (Confession: I'm guilty of a few of these! Lesson learned.)

Jacquelyn Tierney is a beautiful soul, and her e-book, Possessed: A How-to Guide on Collecting, Editing, and Manifesting, is equally as lovely. It's a breakdown of reading the energy of your home and other private spaces. If you're looking to feather your nest, this is a must read!

Magical Miscellany 4.13.14

Magical Miscellany is a best of the web for modern mystics, showcasing my favorite links from the past seven days. Expect an eclectic mix of astrology & tarot, creativity & business, and an inside look at what I’ve been up to over the last week. C’est bon!

AT HOME:

I went to Paris for the first time nearly a year ago, and I can't seem to get it off my mind! Needless to say I fell completely head-over-heels for the city. Seriously, who wouldn't love a gorgeous Art Nouveau cafe like this? With the romantic Venus & Neptune conjunction in effect, I've been dreaming of Paris nearly every night. Not sure what it means, but I'm certainly enjoying it!

ON THE WEB:

When you work for yourself, it's easy to let the lines between business and pleasure get blurry. So what's a girl to do when talking shop starts to sound more like a free consult? Theresa Reed a.k.a. The Tarot Lady's has the low-down on what to do (and say) when your 'friends' try and score your skills for free.

Danielle LaPorte's two-part behemoth on “leaving the church of self-improvement” is a revelation. If you're feeling jaded with the self-help machine, this beautiful missive will energize and inspire.

Confession: I'm a bit obsessed with Stanley Kubrick. Did you know that last week was the 46th anniversary of the release of 2001: A Space Odyssey? Flavorwire's 25 things you didn't know about the film are enough to fascinate even a seasoned movie nerd.

I'm not a mom, but MomSpark's video about how to write and monetize an e-book is pure gold... and it features the fabulous Sarah Morgan!

This post on how to successfully transition from junk food to a vegan lifestyle is everything.

There's something special about burning things, isn't there? Herb mistress Jen Rue from Rue & Hyssop talks satisfaction in fire... and ritual.
